Tension is the curse of modern life and it is becoming
integrated part of present life style. Its nature is like that of poison. It
eats out body and mind from inside like a termite. There can be many reasons
for tension, but the main reason is non-believe in God and mis- match between
state of mind and state of circumstances. It compresses body and minds so much
that balance of Hormones and Bio Chemicals get shattered. It
results in gradual decay of bodily health and mental balance leading to pains
and sufferings due to various body and psycho illnesses.
According to Encyclopaedia of American the tension word was
first used by Hanse Salley. It got huge coinage during Second World War.
According to Salley Tension is force which rises due to dis-balance between
Circumstances and State of Mind. Its burning power is invisible but hugely
dangerous. Due to difficult circumstances of Second World War the devastating
impact of Tension was felt hugely resulting in scientific research on this
matter.
Two American Psychologists Thomas H Holmes and Richards
Raadey researched the matter of Tension in depth. They found grave
stress level of 53 due to disorders and distortions of personal life. They
decided level of tension due to various reasons and pegged divorce at 63, Death
of friend or relative at 36, Unemployment at 56. According to them
in grave tension one loses mental balance and no low self esteem the person may
even commit dastardly acts such as suicide. The latest report
indicates that unbridled desires give birth to tension and this problem is more
prevalent in developed western world. The vast majority of people in
western world are affected by this problem which has taken shape of epidemic.
It will not be misplaced if we described it as curse emerged with the boon of
modern Science.
Now days the gust of consumerism culture of the west has
covered the entire world. Our country is no exception of it. The impact of
consumerism has made the people highly ambitious. To full fill the sky rocketed
ambitions one has to suffer cut throat competition. Slight failure in this
competition gives rise to negativism and tension. In the similar manner
unnatural life style and ultra formal behaviour gives rise to tension.
Psychological disorders like Suspicion, Jealousy, Ego and Enmity are also
factors for tension. In this way tension has become integral part of rat race
of development. In this blind race the life is getting badly entangled rather
than solving out problems.
We consider tension as external factor and fall into mistake
of getting it treated by Medicines. No medicine can succeed in curing the
symptoms caused by tension. Tension adversely impact Neurone and Harmon system.
The medicines taken for tension can control the excess quantity of Hormones but
the gland remain unaffected. The impact of Medicine does not reach to gland and
excess secretion of Hormones re-start once the impact of medicine is over. The
patient becomes even more critical by it. As such the treatment of
Tension is not possible by mere medicines and the patient has to become own
Doctor by adopting natural life style, positive thinking and generous feelings.
By adopting these traits one will gradually come out of poisonous atmosphere
and will create atmosphere of happiness and peace for himself.
In this regard few fundamental things are to be kept in
mind. Everyone live life according to his thoughts and sentiments. He possess
his own goodness and shortcomings. We should always be careful not to hurt the
feelings of others by our words or actions. If this happens the atmosphere will
become bitter by tension and the person concerned will be adversely impacted.
Our behaviour should be such which may not hurt the inner feelings of anyone.
To make public the shortcoming of one amounts to disgrace him. If we need to
counsel, it should be done privately and with kindness. It should never
become the matter of prestige.
The person and his circumstances differ. It is wise to adjust
with the circumstances. Failure to adjust with the circumstances gives rise to
tension. Escapism is no answer but wise compromise with the circumstances is
the only way out.
In this regard the strong will power and positive set of
mind plays crucial role. According to psychologist the persons with strong will
power are least impacted by tension. Shri K.N. Udappa, the author of famous
books “Stress and its management by Yoga”, emphasises on positive thoughts for
stress free life. He also suggests various Yogic actions and says that full
faith in almighty God is best and effective way to overcome Tension. He says
that believer is not even touched by tension.
It is true that faith and believe in God works as soothing
effect in torched sand storm of life. The believer does not allow the disease
of Tension to come nearby even in the hardest of circumstances. Sant Kabir used
to live royal life even in financial hardship. Meera bai used to enjoy Krishan
Bhakti even amidst of accusation and tortures. Sant Tukaram’s bliss ful life
was not impacted by the big family fights. Jesus and Socrates were full of
faith and belief in him when faced with imminent death. Tension was
nowhere. The cool breeze of God love was enough to overcome the fire of tension.
Everyone should have Atmabodh and Tatvabodh Chintan every day and have regular
remembrance of HIM. The easy Yogic Kriyas of Shithlikaran and Pranayam are
immensely useful. These acts are helpful in keep the mind in peace and free of
tension. The life dedicated to HIM with full faith and adjustment is the only
effective measure to overcome the dreaded disease of Tension.
