Tourist v/s Traveller:
Travelling teaches
life and opens up the world for you. Do you love traveling? Are you a tourist
or a traveler? Yes, you heard right. Both have different meanings and different
styles when it comes to traveling. Let us understand how they are different when
it comes to the following:
Habits:
• The general habit of tourists that they
take pictures of known things. Travelers take a shot at the ordinary life of
the place.
• Tourists don't prefer experimenting
with their food. Thus, they don't try out local food much. Travelers love local
foods.
• Tourists visit a destination to take a
break from daily life or for vacation. A Traveller’s sole purpose is visiting
and exploring a place.
• Tourists love to go on holidays with
their loved ones or friends in groups. Travelers like to travel alone or with
one other person.
Preparation style:
• Tourists tend to pack according to
their comfort. They don’t take into account the culture of the country or place
they are going to. Travelers, on the other hand, are wise while packing
clothes. They choose their comfort too, but they do think about the cultural
values and norms.
• Tourists plan out their tours well in advance. Travelers make their plans after reaching the place.
• Budgeting is a vital factor when it comes
to venturing out into the world. Tourist prepares their plans according to
budget. Although travellers don’t have budget plans, they manage to travel more
and spend less.
• Tourists pack organized suitcases. They
might go overboard while packing. You will always see travellers with backpacks
or carry-on.
• Tourists prepare an itinerary and stick
to it. Travelers don’t have exact plans or preparation. They believe in
wandering around and exploring the place.
Attitude:
• While tourists are rigid when meeting
new people or mixing up in a new community, travellers naturally blend in with
their local environment. They adapt to the culture of the place they visit and
adjust according to their lifestyle.
• Tourists have an attitude of sticking
to their plan and visit places according to maps. Travelers enjoy the
destination. Also, they don’t prefer maps. Travelers follow their instincts.
• Tourists tend to follow travel guides.
Travelers don’t like to hire any guide and love traveling with the help of
local people.
Choice of location:
• Usually, tourists travel to places that
are famous and explored by the majority of people. Travelers choose unexplored
or unknown destinations and make their way through them.
• Tourists stay in 3-star or 4-star
hotels. Travelers usually stay in guest houses or hostels.
What you seek:
• Tourists enjoy going on a shopping
spree when traveling. Travelers travel to connect with nature and explore a new
place.
• Tourists spend on buying expensive and
extravagant souvenirs. Travelers find local gems by digging that place
more.
Now you can see, a
tourist and a traveller are pole opposites. Both have contrasting mindsets and
experience a place differently. While a tourist travels a place to enjoy their
vacation period, a traveller travels to explore it, learn and enjoy life.
