Eid-ul-Adha:

Eid is a day when Muslims thank Allah for giving them the courage and endurance to fast and keep His commandments. It is a one-of-a-kind festival that bears no resemblance to any historical or current world events.

This Feast of Sacrifice commemorates God's instruction to Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son, Ismail, in the form of a dream vision. But, just as he was going to offer his son as a sacrifice, God sent the Angel Gabriel, who appeared with a gigantic ram. Abraham's dream vision had come true, and he should sacrifice the ram as a ransom for his son, according to Gabriel. The story is told in Chapter 37 of the Holy Qur'an.

It is completely spiritual in nature. It is the day on which Muslims thank Allah for giving them the ability to will, power, and endurance. Despite the fact that it is a sacrifice holiday, the question remains: What do we genuinely need to sacrifice in light of the current world situation?

Sacrifice, according to the Sunnah, is the purest form of worship. And if we look at how we perform sacrifices closely, we'll notice that we're actually performing a ritual. Is there any reward from Allah as a result of such a sacrifice? Certainly, not.

So, what should we really sacrifice - Greed, lust, violence or compassion for living beings?

Attachment. Yes, Allah wanted Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his attachment which he had for his son.

Now, the question is – what are we really attached to? If we dwell deep within, we’ll realise we are deeply attached to the idea of illusion.

The illusion of happiness and content which is sprawling across the internet, especially social media. That has done nothing, but plagued our conscience and inner peace.

Millions of people died in this ongoing pandemic that has besieged humankind; brought us down to our knees. Vaccines are on their way, but manufacturing and distribution will take time. What we can do meanwhile is to sacrifice our anger, ego and delusion and look for something that brings tranquillity.

Go out and look if someone needs our help - physical, financial or emotional. Be available for them. Get rid of the attachment to material benefits and go for gathering as much blessings from Allah as possible.
