Just like all other rooms in our house, like bedroom, master bedroom, drawing room, dining room etc, the vastu of bathrooms and toilets in our house or even office is also important. While constructing or buying any property one must keep in mind the fact that the location of bathroom in the property should be decided only on advice of an expert in vastu.

My experience in the field of vastu has repeatedly pointed out to the fact that if the washroom is not in the right direction of the house, it leads to misfortunes and miseries. It is seen that in modern times, bathrooms have attached toilets. This fact multiplies the negative effect of the bathroom constructed in the wrong direction of the house. Thus, one should avoid constructing bathrooms and toilets in the wrong direction in the house and against the principles of vastushastra.

The bathroom and toilet should never be situated in the northeast direction of the house as this may lead to diseases, especially mental problems among the people residing in such a house. Accidents and serious illness to people of such a house is a result of this vastu dosha.

Moreover, it has been seen that if a person has toilet in north-east direction of both his residence and office, young generation of the house of such a person often gets caught in the cycle of alcohol and drugs. If an office has toilet in the north-east direction, employees working there become prone to accidents. If the toilet is in north direction then this may lead to financial losses due to diseases and other problems. If the toilet is in east, this may lead to conflicts and quarrels between family members in house and between employees in office due to ego.

According to vastu, construction of toilets and bathrooms should be done near north-west or south-west direction of the house. However, it is advisable to take advice of a vastu expert so that bathroom can be constructed in the exact zone where it should be. The benefit of such an advice from a vastu expert is that one stays away from diseases and hence gets an opportunity to save money which might get spent in curing the disease. The flow of water in the tap of the washroom should be towards north or east. A mirror in the washroom should also be situated in north or east. Construction of toilet and bathroom leads to happiness and peace in house/office.

If the bathroom is attached to a room in the house or is situated in it, the door of such a bathroom must be kept close. Also, the toilet seat should also be covered after use. The English toilet seat is preferred over Indian seat due to the fact that it can be covered after use. This helps in preventing flow of negative energy in the house. There should also be a window in the bathroom to allow negative energy to move out.

One should avoid using dark colors like black or blue in the bathrooms. Instead, tiles of light colors like sky blue, pink, light green,white or cream should be used. Toilet seat, washbasin and other things in the bathroom should also be of light colors.

If you live in a house where the bathroom is situated in north-east direction, you should stop using that bathroom. To reduce the impact of such a vastu dosha , a big mirror should be put on north or east wall. Also, a glass bowl should be kept filled with sea-salt. It should also be kept in mind that bathroom should not be adjacent to the kitchen or main gate of the house and nor should it be in front of the main gate. It should also be kept in mind that a bathroom situated in the right direction becomes a reason for happiness and well-being.
