Playing Holi Can Help You Boost Your Mental Health | Life Within

Holi, the festival of colours, is almost upon us. Remember, this time last year? Everything went silent...no songs, no flying colors, no sweet sound of children pouring colored water on elders or the adults wearing their childish grin while screaming 'Bura Na Mano Holi Hai'.

Since forever, this festival has been nothing but an excuse to go back in time and be a child again.

With all this pandemic scare, would that be possible this year? Will we be able to relive those sweet memories?

I say, why not? Who said you'd have to break rules to enjoy a festival? Why not use this festival of colours, as an expression of inclusiveness? Yes!

Don't we use colours to express emotions and feelings? So, why not use this rainbow of a chance to build a healthy relationship with our mind?

#1. Colors

You don't have to break the safety bubble to bring your feelings outside. Enjoy it with family, and create a guest bubble. Take the necessary precautions. You can wear bright colored clothes and get on Zoom Call with your friends, who are physically out of reach. Host a small party, ask everyone to wear a weird combination of bright colors and express their ideas behind fixing the outfit. You'll see how such a small activity will leave them all laughing with joy.

You see, our feelings are brought outside when we play with or see bright colors. There is an intangible sense of vitality in our lives. Something most of us need these days. It also has an impact on our behavior and the joy of colors on the outside is reflected inside us.

#2. Food

During the festivity, we make and serve plenty of delicacies be it Gujas, Barfis, Mathris etc. Delicious food add to our feelings and sentiments, causing an individual to feel upbeat. There is consistently a connection between great carbs and state of mind, thus utilization of desserts discharges cheerful synthetics in our cerebrum. Great food causes an individual to be more loose and keep them feeling great. But why just dessert? Trust me, cooking is cathartic. Why not bring you entire family together to put up a meal. Divide the meal prep amongst you and enjoy cooking as a family.

#3. Togetherness

The get-togethers bring out delight and perkiness in us. You don't need a crowd but few positive connections who are delighted to meet you as much as you meeting them. This time of euphoria and agreement, is what your mind needs. As much as good food is important for your body, good thoughts and positivity is what your mind seeks at the point. So surround yourself with those who love you unconditionally; meet them (personally go over or via video call). But make sure to make them a part of your mind positivity.

Stay cheerful and appreciate that we all are alive and healthy!
